Whenever I go to a place for the first time, I love the challenge of getting there on my own. Of course I do my research first on the “how”. To help back, let me share with you how we reached Nami Island from Seoul.

Prepare a whole day for the trip. If you’re going during the warm season, congratulations as you can explore a lot. Aside from Nami Island, you may visit other top tourist destinations in Gapyeong like Petite France and Morning Calm.

Seoul to Nami Island by Train

Again since it was a laidback trip, as soon as we were all ready, we hopped on the Metro to Yongsan Station. At Yongsan Station, we bought the earliest ITX train tickets to Gapyeong at the Korail counter. There maybe a short queue that time, but advanced purchasing of tickets online is still advised by many. Aside from getting a guaranteed seat on your preferred schedule, ticket price is cheaper. Don’t forget to include your return tickets to be safe.

Gapyeong Station

The trip from Yongsan Station to Gapyeong Station took almost an hour. As we exited Gapyeong Station, we went straight to the bus stop in front of the terminal. We took the Gapyeong City Tour bus that follows a route along Gapyeong’s tourist destinations, similar to hop-on-hop-off bus. You may procure a guide map at the nearby Tourist Information Center so you’ll also be guided on the bus’ timetable. Bus tickets are bought from the driver for KRW 6,000 (PHP 265.75) per adult. In our case, we used our T-Money card for the bus fare.

We hopped off at Nami Island bus stop and walked to the Gapyeong Wharf. The ferry tickets cost KRW 13,000 (PHP 575.75) per adult, which covered both the entrance fee and roundtrip ferry fare.

As we were freezing to death, we decided to just stay and spend the time in Nami Island.

Tip

For groups visiting Nami Island only, it is more economical and time saving to take a taxi from Gapyeong Station to Gapyeong Wharf. But if you’re alone or a couple, taking the bus 33-5 across the road is a cheaper option as an adult ticket costs KRW 1,250 (PHP 55.50).

Have a safe journey!
